Non vedo lo spazio, ma il tempo.
Fotografare la Sicilia. Un desiderio. Tutti i più grandi fotografi del mondo sono venuti in Sicilia per fotografare. Sguardi straordinari di occhi che erano gli occhi degli ospiti. Questi autori avevano già un archivio di immagini già formato. Cercavano conferme.
Il fotografo siciliano che fotografa la propria terra non cerca conferme, vuole fare scoperte, vuole incontrare. Il suo sguardo è stratificato dal tempo. La sua visione non riguarda lo spazio ma il tempo...

L'arte intuisce bene, la fotografia no.
Non possiamo paragonare i due sistemi, il piccolo mondo della fotografia spesso autoreferenziale, quasi mai ha avuto spunti di questo tipo. Eppure, per esempio, la fotografia di moda ha sempre avuto a che fare con il mondo del lusso. Ma, a parte qualche eccezione come Helmut Newton, gran parte dei fotografi di moda sono e restano degli illustri sconosciuti. Solo bravi tecnici.
La fotografia d'autore potrebbe avvicinarsi un pò a quel mondo. Sappiatelo se vendete le foto a 300 euro, per quella clientela li è qualcosa che vale poco.Non è desiderabile. Eppure chi compra una borsetta 3000 euro non ha difficoltà a comprare anche una foto con la stessa cifra. Ma l'autore non è desiderabile, nemmeno se passa la vita a fare mostre in giro per fotofestival e concorsi vari. A new york hanno incassato 2,5 miliardi in una settimana, l'insieme delle tre case d'asta. Per fare la stessa cosa ci vogliono tutti i fotografi del mondo messi insieme e un anno di tempo. Segue...

In the flood not everyone drowns in the same way.
"Colui che scatta" come diceva Flusser. Non il fotografo, non l'autore ma tutti gli altri. Tutti gli altri producono un diluvio di 4 miliardi di immagini ogni giorno destinati alla sparizione, come diceva Baudrillard.
La gente scatta prima di guardare. Archivia.
Archivia ancor prima di vivere quel momento, ancor prima di nutrirsi di quella visione. Un tic compulsivo divenuto patologico.

L'evanescente che non c'è più.
C'è stata un'epoca in cui le cose svanivano. Le immagini svanivano con dignità, con eleganza.
Oggi tutti hanno fatto una scelta diversa. Nulla deve sfuggire, niente va dimenticato ed è per questo che fotografiamo compulsivamente ogni cosa.
Produciamo un flusso abnorme di immagini destinati alla sparizione.
Quindi l'evanescenza non è sparita ma viene cammuffata dall'abbondanza inutile e fragorosa.
La memoria ha bisogno di scarsità, di scelte, di selezione e di sacrificare qualcosa.
Ricordare non è conservare tutto ma sapere cosa vale la pena di portare con sè.
